Did you miss me?

I haven’t written in a long time.  I have been pretty busy.  Last August we left Thailand.  I was busy packing up 5 years of life in Thailand and getting rid of SO MUCH junk collected. I was genuinely happy to leave Thailand. 5 years is a long time to spend in a place that is not your home.

Looking back after some time, there were many things about Thailand to like.  The food, the beaches, the cost of living, were all positives.  I spent many an amazing holiday playing in the surf of the world’s most beautiful beaches.  I had been there too long and I had started to sour.  It’s not my culture and I was not welcome there.  I was welcome to spend my money, but not welcome to stay.  I do not miss the lying culture and saving face culture.  I do not miss the god awful driving. I do not miss the sweltering heat, cockroaches or scorpions or giant spiders.

I am not in any hurry to go back, maybe someday, but not anytime soon. We took our lives and moved to Changzhou, China.  We were so excited to start a new chapter at a “prestigious” school.

There were many red flags from the day we arrived that we chose to ignore, but there isn’t much you can do once you realise you have made a mistake.  We had packed up our family and pets, left everything we knew behind and moved.  There isn’t any place to go.  You’re trapped and now it’s time to make the best of it.  Take the red flags, try to make them green.  Figure out a way to manage them, reset expectations and cope.

We really planned to stay and make the best of it.

More to come soon.
