We found something to do, fun for the whole family.
I've done many a searches for things to do with kids in Yangon, things to do in Yangon, fun day drips near Yangon. Any way to word it, I have tried.
This came up only by accident. Hlawga National Park. It's about an hour from city center. We rented a car and driver for the day and headed out.
It was so pretty outside the filth of the city!
The park has a small zoo, much better then the zoo in Yangon. The enclosures for the animals were large and green and somewhat appropriate for the animals.
There is a part where you can drive through and see the wild animals. Monkeys line the road waiting for hand outs. There were some very sad elephants chained up, but other then that, the animals looked fat and happy.
There are a few local restaurants where you can grab a bite to eat and some ice cream.
On the way home we stopped by the War Memorial. It was beautifully maintained, but it seemed to be a place for locals to hang out and picnic more than pay respects to the fallen soldiers of war.
We also had to battle MANY people trying to pet our son and asking for photos which takes away much of the enjoyment for him. He wanted to run around, but we couldn't let him to far from us because locals were all trying to get him to pose for pictures. He's learning to say "no", but they don't always accept his answer unless I'm right there to back him up.
All in all, I would definitely recommend this short day trip to Hlaw
