Zombies, Target, Turkey Oh My!

As I destroy clothes for my son and husband's zombie costume, I realize how much I miss the United States at this time of the year. October, November, and December. Although Halloween is sort of celebrated here, kids will dress up at school, it's not the fun holiday here that it is in the States. I miss the Halloween parades, the trick-or-treating, and the copious amounts of candy given out by strangers. I feel bad that my son is missing out.

November brings Thanksgiving, family gorging themselves on pumpkin pie and turkey. We kind of celebrate Thanksgiving wherever we are, but it can be hard to find what we need. Turkey is hard to find and if it can be located, it's usually too expensive to bother. I did find some pumpkin puree and hoarded a few cans, but I think I paid $6 or $7 per can.

Finally December and Christmas. Of course we put up our tree and ornaments we have collected from all over the world, but it's not quite the same. IT'S SO HOT. Most people don't celebrate Christmas here. The mall puts up a big sparkly tree and few decorations, that's about it. I miss pictures with Santa, the parades, events, zoolights, all the bright and sparkly joy of Christmas.

Oh, and of course I miss

Target most of all.
