A New Start

The new school year started here in Southern Thailand. Our last experience with an international school, in Myanmar, was our first. It didn't seem like the Myanmar school really cared about the teachers and certainly not about their families. Of course we didn't have anything to compare it too. So far the new school in Thailand has gone above and beyond.

The week before school started, the school took all the staff and their families on a trip. they rented a bus and took us all out to a temple and we were treated to a dance and ceremony and lunch.

After that we headed to further out to see a cave. This cave was really cool! It was huge! I will admit I really disliked the long stair climb to get there though. We climbed a sky scrapers worth of stairs. I didn't stop sweating for 2 days. After that we headed to a resort on the beach, showered, had dinner, and slept.

The following day we headed out to go "rafting" It was actually tippy canoes. Most people really enjoyed it, but I did not partake. Regardless if I like the activities or not, it was really nice for the families and teachers to meet and get to know each other.

My husband is enjoying teaching there so far.

My son also seems to really like it at the school. Smaller classes, the kids are being kind, he has friends already, and his teacher seems very nice too.

Next week we head to Penang, Malaysia for a visa run. There is someone in the office that handles EVERYTHING for us. They told us when to go, booked a ride, and got all our papers in order. Other good news, we only have to go to Penang once, we can renew our visa here in town, just down the street. There are a few other visa rules we are trying to learn and remember, but all in good time. Living here in Southern Thailand still has it's challenges. Every morning we find one dead cockroach in the kitchen. EWWWW! I think that is just a way of life here.
