My husband and I decided to embark on an adventure in 2016. We would take our then 4 year old son and leave the familiarity of our home in the Seattle area and move abroad. A number of factors figured into this decision. My husband wanted to pursue further education and become a teacher. Doing so in the United States was cost prohibitive. There was also nothing keeping us in the U.S. We didn't have a mortgage, amazing careers, and very little family. My son and I have dual citizenship with the U.S. and Latvia and so we moved to Europe.
Before moving I read many articles and blogs. I watched tons of Youtube videos. One thing I found out was that almost all the information out there was published by travelers. They arrived in their location, ate some local food, saw the local sites, maybe backpacked and took a little public transportation, and then headed off to their next destination. They DID NOT know what it was like to live there long term. This blog is about my experience and challenges living outside the United States. The true and uncensored version of my and my families ups and downs.
