When we lived in Latvia we never ordered online. Not only were shipping costs very high, we were on a tight budget. Things are changing and online ordering in Latvia is much easier and much more budget friendly. In Yangon, forget it. If you've been paying attention, we had no Myanmar bank account and it wouldn't have worked outside Myanmar.
I was able to use Facebook to message a few business, tell them what I wanted. The next day a guy on a bike would show up with my product and I would pay him cash. Thailand is a whole new ball game! Bank account working and lots of online options to choose from.
We really wanted a water dispenser, for the large water bottles. In the stores they are SO expensive! Now, with the miracle of online shopping I was able to find one at a fraction of the cost of the store bought ones.
Soon it will be my son's 7th birthday. He really wants a party. I tried to talk him into a getaway, but he has his heart set on a party. A bigfoot party. When I think of bigfoot, I think of mountains, evergreen trees, and forests. Thailand isn't exactly the pacific northwest. I hit the interwebs and found a lot of things I can use for the party. Some items are Christmas related, garlands and a tree. Some things I can make.
You know what I can't find? Paper plates. You know the kind I'm looking for. Colored paper plates used for parties. Sometimes they say "Happy Birthday", some are themed, some are plain. I can find white paper plates at the market, but not party plates.
I can't even find them online! That's not true, I can, but they ship from over seas and the cost reflects that. I love my son, but I cannot justify paying upwards of $60.00 for 40 paper plates. Napkins were also hard to find, colored party napkins, but not impossible. I was able to find some on the IKEA website. (Plus a few 100 other things I CANNOT live without!)
So I continue my search for paper plates. Maybe I'll find some or maybe we'll just use white ones. Of course the Pintrest mom inside me is cringing at this idea.
